“The Great French Wine Trip”

Paris

Day 1,2

The trip takes in some strikingly different regions with their own particular wines and cuisine, but starts with...

  • 2 nights in Paris. One of the world’s iconic cities, there is something for everyone. Whether you’re into art and culture, history and architecture, or just shopping and smooching along the banks of the Seine, John and Stéphane will guide you to the best spots – of course finishing with a street-side apéritif before dinner in a typical Parisian brasserie.

Burgundy

Day 3,4

Thereafter, a 3.5 hour minibus drive will take you to...

  • Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, for a 2 night stay. Beaune itself is a charming medieval town ideal for strolling. Just as importantly, it is an excellent location from which to explore the many celebrated wine villages which surround it. From Gevrey-Chambertin to Puligny-Montrachet, FWT has a range of small to large producers to visit and sample. Burgundy wine goes with Burgundy cuisine so you can be sure of fine yet inexpensive dining.

Rhone

Day 5,6

After a 2 hour drive south you arrive at...

  • Lyon, known as the gastronomic capital of France, for another 2 nights. This great city lies at the confluence of the Saone and Rhone rivers, of great strategic importance since Roman times. It also happens to be strategically placed for wine visits to Beaujolais and the Northern Rhone – not that far apart geographically, but very different styles of wine in very different landscapes from the gently rolling hills of Beaujolais to the dramatic and steep Northern Rhone valley.

Provence

Day 7,8

Further south, and a 2.5 hour drive brings us to...

  • Avignon, where you will start to appreciate the lifestyle of Provence for 2 nights. The air is different and the food and lifestyle is more Mediterranean. Wine trips from here to the Southern Rhone, particularly Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, but also into the countryside to appreciate the atmosphere and amazing Roman remains.

Bordeaux

Day 9,10

No driving this time, but a short flight west from Marseille airport to...

  • Bordeaux, where you will stay your final 2 nights. One of the world’s great wine names, but the city itself is also a beautiful example of 18th century architecture, great for shopping, sightseeing and (what else?) eating and drinking. Wine visits to the Medoc and St Emilion, the two quintessential wine areas of the region.

Your final day will be a 3.5 hour high-speed train journey back to Paris CDG for your flight home.”
